Cornwall based ‘Splann’ is a Ceilidh and barn dance band that delves into some of the best Scottish, Irish and Cornish tunes to get your wedding, festival, corporate function or party swinging with style. Splann Cornwall ceilidh band  play for ceilidhs and barn dances across Cornwall and Devon and beyond.

Line up

The core of the band is a three piece (consisting of fiddle, accordion and guitar). Which is guaranteed to get your event or celebration up and dancing with driving reels and swirling jigs.

We can also add drums and bass to the line up to create the Splann ‘Big Band’. As the name suggests, this will create a bigger rockier sound. The choice is yours, just pick the line up that suits your event or size of venue. From small village halls to stages at festivals. Lastly, our caller, Ellie, will be there to talk you through each of the dances before they start. Ensuring that whether you are seasoned ceilidh dancing expert or this is your first time at a barn dance you’ll feel confident on the night. Whether your event is in Cornwall, Devon, Somerset or Dorset, Splann will give it a real Celtic flavour.

We’re a group of experienced musicians who have been actively involved in the Cornish and south west folk scene for longer than we care to remember.

Ceilidh (or barn dance) noun.

A Ceilidh (pronounced ‘kay-lee’), also known as a ceili or barndance, is a traditional Celtic social gathering involving musicians playing traditional celtic tunes for dancers.

Example: I danced all night at Splann’s awesome Ceilidh.

Why book a ceilidh band?

Because Ceilidh are great fun. A barndance is a great way to get your friends and guests to get up, dance together and enjoy themselves – even if they have never met before.

Splann ceilidh band Cornwall regulary play straight gigs with the core three piece of fiddle, accordion and guitar and the Splann ‘Big’band, focussing on foot-taping Scottish reels, spinning Irish jigs and driving Cornish tunes. We can also tailor our line up to suit the size of your venue or event.

What if i don’t know how to dance at a Ceilidh?

Don’t worry, our caller Ellie will be there to get you up and dancing. Ellie is an experienced caller who is highly respected within the Ceilidh dance scene throughout Cornwall and Devon. Ellie will expertly lead you through each dance by demonstrating and talking to you through each dance before the band start playing. It could not be easier.
